Is there anything that makes modern European music recognizable?

I mean modern European music rock, pop, electronic or something like that. I'm a european musician and I'm curious about it: romanticism? existentialism? big use of Electronic? Is there anything usually common in modern european music, that makes you think "this is a european artist"? There are european bands that sound like american bands, of course, I'm not talking about them; think about David Bowie, Radiohead, Kraftwerk, Sigur R�s, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Joy Division, french songwriters, Nico etc. I'm asking it to you americans to get an external point of view.
